I stopped by the annual St. Louis Book Fair yesterday. It was pretty impressive: thousands and thousands of used books for less than two bucks a piece!
I picked up about a dozen rare titles, including an awesome book called A Brief History of the Smile!
The entire parking lot reeked of that old book smell. Ahhhhh! I love it. And everything was going great until I found myself in the self-help section and saw this:
No way. Is that what I think it is?
Yes. It's my book. Sitting on the bargain table. For two bucks.
Well, there goes my self-esteem.
I held the book in my hand and starting laughing hysterically. The woman next to me looked over at my nametag and the book and asked, "Excuse me Scott, but is that you?"
"Yep, it's my book. Came out in 2002. Guess it's only worth two bucks!"
"Really? Do you have a pen? Will you sign it for me?"
"Um, sure...hang on."
I autographed the copy for her and said, "Here ya go Maria...now it's worth $2.25!"
LET ME ASK YA THIS...
What's the coolest used book you've ever bought?

Easy! Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, some sort of transcript of the original radio shows. Found it outside the university in Berlin, where there's almost always students out selling their old books.
Scott,
Take heart! Some of us just love a book so much we want to share it with others!! How fortunate for your fan that you were there to sign the book.
Can't recall the coolest used book I ever bought...but the best book I've ever read is "The War Of Art" by Steven Pressfield. His words are what drive me to get out of bed every day and do my work!! I highly recommend it.
Ashamed to say, I've never bought a used book, but I did get a really cool "used" tin sign and awesome lithograph plate of Elvis once! That must count. (:
No way? The War of Art is my favorite book of all time!
I KNOW!!!! It's an incredible book and exactly what I pick up whenever I need a shot in the arm!
Haven't met a person yet who has read it and hasn't raved about it.
