The Land of Cheese and Beer

At least that's what everyone tells me about Milwaukee. (This is my first time here.) I'm doing a few days of staff training with the Hyatt Regency this week.

A few observations...

*When I stepped off the plane (at 1:30 PM on a Wednesday) I noticed a group of firemen in the bar about 4 deep. I suspect it was Miller, as opposed to my hometown favorite, Bud.

*Saw an old man in his late 60's/early 70's wearing a black shirt with white writing that read: THIS IS WHAT COOL LOOKS LIKE. I thought, Wow, this is my kind of guy!

*The food is GREAT here. Hyatt's in-house restaurant, Knuckles, serves up one helluva Philly Cheese Steak. They also had a selection of about 30 different beers. Kinda made me wish I was a drinker. Oh well.

On a slightly related note, I came across a great article from Management Issues about Boss Approachability. Good timing, especially since today's training session is with all of the managers of the property. Anyway, this survey from the UK canvassed the thoughts of 1,500 employees, 97% of whom thought "their manager could do a better job of communicating clearer and more direct," and that "we all respond to managers who are approachable."

Good stuff.

Alrighty, off to work. Cheers and cheese from Milwaukee!

LET ME ASK YA THIS...

What's your favorite beer and/or cheese?

Looks like Milwaukee isn't my kind of place. Not a fan of beer or cheese... Or how hard it is to spell that city's name. (:

Favorite beer? Sleeman's Cream Ale from Guelph, Ontario, Canada. My hometown.

C'mon, when you're in Milwaukee the correct response is

What is Miller!!

Actually the response would be
"an MGD, ah!!"

Favorite beer-Michelob Ultra (saves me carbs so I can eat dessert)

Favorite cheese-Jalapeno Pepper Jack

I see you're speaking at ASAE's
Springtime http://www.springtimeexpo.com/; I'm so bummed that I have a schedule conflict and cannot attend. Enjoy and safe travels!

Favourite beer: not a beer drinker but always game to try a sample at the micro breweries. So, the raspberry beer from the micro brewery overlooking London Bridge at Lake Havasu, AZ (yes, the bridge was taken down and transported from England to Lake Havasu, brick by brick).

Favourite cheese: now that's a toughy ... love 'em all, but to narrow it down, I'd say it's a toss up between a snow goat cheese or a true mediterranean Feta.

me again ... had to look up the name of the microbrewery for you. Barley Brothers Brewery (overlooks London Bridge) in Lake Havasu, AZ. Tell them I sent you.

The name of the beer is (with their spelling): Tripleberrry Wheat, A refreshing pastel wheat beer balanced with cranberries, raspberries and blueberries. A Havasu favorite!

Cheers, bottoms-up, and all that

I grew up in Wisconsin and I swear the only people who can pronounce it correctly are the natives....Everyone else says WisCOOOOONsin! If you venturedout of Milwaukee you would see alot of corn fields and red barns! lol

On to beer and cheese....Grew up drinking Old Style, but don't drink beer anymore as it doesn't agree with me. I love almost all cheeses, but when in Wisconsin I have to find fresh cheese curds!! Yum.

<< Is a big fan of Beer. My favorite is Dead Guy Ale. Saint Paule's Girl is second. Other dark beers are great too.

CHeese? Nah. Try chocolate with beer. Nothing better. Well, excluding my wife of course. She's the tops.
