Self-Promotion for the Creative Person

A few weeks ago I finished Self-Promotion for the Creative Person: Get the Word Out about Who You Are and What You Do, by Lee Silber. It was fantastic! Here are some of my favorite one-liners:

  • If nobody knows you exist, it doesn't matter how good your work is.
  • The most effective form of self-promotion is tooting your own horn, loud and clear. Talking, speaking, having a website, writing articles - these are effective ways to show the world that YOU believe in YOU.
  • A man in Dallas actually changed his name to DotComGuy!
  • In a world of infinite choices, your uniqueness is a sorting device
  • Branding yourself creates loyalty. It creates a following of people who appreciate what you do. They know what to expect, and making a decisino to buy becomes a no-brainer.
  • (Networking for) an hour a day keeps the real job away.
  • Dedicated and motivated fans will do the bulk of the marketing for you.

    LET ME ASK YA THIS...

What's your favorite method of self-promotion?

As a blogger, my favorite form of self-promotion is posting comments, relevant, intelligent, value-adding comments, at other blogs.

This is a great way to get noticed.

So many times the other bloggers will email me and thank me for insightful comments.

If I post a comment, then do a post on my blog about them or an issue they posted about, and then email the blogger to let them know I just posted something about them, this also works well. A double punch.

Leaving provocative, supportive, challenging, contrarian, enriching posts at other blogs is not hard, but takes some time. You have to surf around to find a post worth commenting about.

I own this book too, It's fantastic and actually a part of three series in the books.
    Time Managment
    Self Promotion
and one more that I can't remember

I just heard about this book and was trying to decide if it was worth buying. Thank you for helping me decide I should give it a try. I have a shop on Etsy and this sounds like what I need to give me ideas to bring more buyers to my shop.

I have been searching for ways to promote my songs and writings when i came across Lee's book. It's coming from another library so i haven't held it in my hand yet. I'm looking forward in moving forward. Wish me luck!

Dear Scott, thanks for another super article, i just love this site, thanks for the hard work.
