Next time you're driving down US 40 between Effingham and Indianapolis, stop off at Exit 62 and go to the Hardee's on Vandalia Road. Here's why:
It was 8:00 PM. This Monday night. I just finished hosting a seminar in Cincinnati and still had 4 hours to drive before returning to St. Louis, at which point I would pass out for 5 hours, wake up and give another speech. Ahh, life on the road.
So I was pleasantly surprised to hear the following greeting talking box from the talking box at the drive through: "HELLO, my name is Mollie. Welcome to Hardee's! What can I get for you this evening?"
Wait a sec. Did the drive through attendant just introduce herself to me? No way! I've been eating fast food my whole life, and that has NEVER happened!
I ordered my Thickburger and pulled up to the window. Sure enough, Mollie was waiting there with my order, smile and all. She quickly glanced at my nametag and said, "Here ya go, Scott, enjoy!"
She started to close the window when I said, "Hey Mollie...?"
"Yes?"
"You are without a doubt, the nicest drive through attendant I've ever had!"
Her faced turned as red as the ketchup on my Friso Burger. She thanked me and chuckled her way back into the booth. Now that's what I call friendly and memorable service!
Take that, McDonald's.
LET ME ASK YA THIS...
What was the friendliest moment of service you ever experienced?

It was at an Extended Stay America in Torrence, CA. The night staff would greet me each night as I came through the front door.
I was so thrilled that I left a huge Thank You note on flip chart paper taped to the mirror when I checked out.
It seems there was a Junior College nearby that taught hopitality and most of the desk clerks went to school there.
Great Optimism,
Have you ever been to Chick-fil-A? The culture of the place, no matter what franchise you go to exudes this same friendliness and caring attitude. I've never seen anything like it, especially consistency across the board...
I haven't eaten at Chick-fil-A since the 80's. But I DO recall that franchise as being one of the first in the world to have waffle fries.
Mmmm....waffle fries.
And...I'm sure they're very friendly too!
There is a McDonald's in Louisville, KY just a little north of I-264 on SR 31 (2209 Taylorsville Rd.; Louisville, KY 40205 to be exact). I've done the drive-through breakfast there twice, and both times, the woman who takes my order has been SO polite and SO friendly, I can honestly say it's the nicest any McDonald's employee has ever been.
I have to agree about the service at Chick-fil-A. They take Southern manners and hospitality from their home office in Atlanta and pass it on to every franchise owner.
I travel all over and have never received bad service or bad food for that matter.
I was so pumped about their consistancy for excellent service that I wrote an article about the lessons we can learn on Customer Service from a chicken.
Check it out at http://kevineikenberry.com/articles/customer_srvice_chickens_way.asp if you want :)
The McDonald's south of US 72 and Houston Levee Road in Collierville TN has excellent drive-through service in terms of smiling and enthusiasm, although they do mess up my order a lot.
Dear Scott, thanks for another super article, i just love this site, thanks for the hard work.
