Survey Reveals Most Annoying Buzzwords, Terms and Phrases in the Workplace

Here's the article from Marketing Today about business buzzwords gone bad.

Some of my favorites from the list were:

  • "At the end of the day"
  • "Solution"
  • "Thinking outside the box"
  • "Value-added"
  • "Get on the same page"
Some annoying phrases I'd like to ADD to the list would be:

  • "Not just THRIVING but SURVIVING"
  • "Peace of mind"
  • "Movers and Shakers"
  • "It's not a problem, it's an opportunity"
Also, play a game of Buzzword Bingo @ www.thecitizen.org/uk - this is hilarious!

LET ME ASK YA THIS...

What annoying business buzzwords are on your list?

I can add:
Best Practices
Core Competencies
Change Champion
Change Agent
Early Adopter
True Visionary

I am certain will find more to use later when I am facilitating.

I also forgot:

*Widgets
*Company XYZ

How about:

Gift of time

Swag As in take a swag at it.

Is that a fair statement?

Let's noodle it

"Attitude is EVERYTHING"

"Strike while the iron is hot!"

"let's get all our ducks in a row"

"Ping" (see if you can ping Nelson, we have meeting at 3:00)

I can't believe I havn't seen this one posted yet:

"Circle-back" (I'll circle-back with Steve on Monday)

Deep Dive (as in explore a topic), "I'd like for us all to take a DEEP DIVE into the blah blah initiative."

"Windshield Time" refers to time spent in a car. Used this way: "We really need to reduce the WINDSHIELD TIME for our salespeople." Whoever came up with this one is a complete dork!

Fire one across the bow

Running with the top down

Get some wheels under it

What good looks like

Get one across the goal line

Due diligence

Low hanging fruit

I want to add...

Gain traction
Optics
Actually or Actual

I heard some old ones recently as in
Open the kimono, Under the bridge, etc.

PLEASE, save the world from weasel words. Can we not have legislation?

the grossest i have come across is "low hanging fruit" - i somehow get the wrong visual in my mind when this is spoken

I have to add:

F.Y.I.

This reminds me, I hate how everything gets abbreviated...including my name.

Hey J.S.,

FYI, I need you to FTP the PSD to K.D. by COB or ASAP in the AM. Thanks!

TTYL,

P.T.

Ive been hearing"synergy" quite a bit and it has been used correctly but that word bugs the heck out of me.

I heard this one in a meeting the other day... "We need to get a helicopter view of the situation"

what a buzzword !!!!

jass

Let's put that on the parking lot list

Let's talk about this offline
