A pick-up line is ONE way to conversation, but it's usually not an EFFECTIVE way. About a year ago I was dancing at a local club. My friend Dave introduced me to a woman named Alexis. After we shook hands she asked, "So Scott...do you have any friends named Alexis?"
"Uh, well yeah...there was a girl I went to college with named Alexis."
"Okay, well let me ask you this," she said as she pressed herself against my body, "Have you ever RIDDEN in Alexis before?"
Wow.
If you want read some other ineffective ways to start conversations (do these EVER work?), check out Dan Hersam's blog. Also, in an old Dave Barry article, the humorist had the following to say about the sacred art of the pick-up line:
LET ME ASK YA THIS...
What's the best/worst pick-up line you've ever heard?

What was your reply to Alexis pick up line...all of your reply please.
Fair enough...
I rarely get speechless. But as soon as Alexis said that, the only words that came out of my mouth were, "Duhhh....er....uhhhhh"
But it was funny. So after a few awkward seconds, we started laughing and I became more comfortable.
Then about three minutes into the conversation, I discovered Alexis was a total bitch, completely self-centered and wouldn't let me get a single word into the conversation.
So I did the same thing anyone would have done in my position:
I got her number.
No I'm just kidding. I never saw her again.
Good times.
I was dancing it up, doing my thing at a popular local club. I was wearing my favorite camouflage skirt and a nany green top. I'm a pacifist and don't belive in war. This guy coms up to me, totally drunk and waving his dogtags at me, says "I'm in the army; are you in the army?" I couldn't stop laughing.
Dear Scott, thanks for another super article, i just love this site, thanks for the hard work.
Not too bad, but you need to be a little more direct. If you just waked up to a woman and said - Hey I think you're the prettiest girl I've seen all day, she'd be more flattered than if you were to use a cheesy chat up line.
Some cool one liners here - http://www.pickuplines.net
Forget to mention... my favourite line:
"Did it hurt? When you fell down form heaven" Works with a massive smile on your face and a cheeky swagger.
