That one person who changed everything

Social network analysis [SNA] is the mapping and measuring of relationships and flows between people, groups, organizations, computers or other information/knowledge processing entities.

This article has an awesome diagram that gives new meaning to the phrase "Six Degrees of Separation."

LET ME ASK YA THIS...

Have you ever had a brief encounter with "that one person" who changed everything?

The premise of connecting, bonding and building sustainable relationships with one another through an effective use of "hello, my name is" introductions, is a great example of how one person can play a domino role in creating new ideas too, what i call WOWideas!

A good representation of how one person being introduced to another person that is introduced to one more person is contained in the story of Nikola Tesla. A Croatian-born engineer, he was hell-bent on creating a new type of motor. This lead to his meeting, and ultimately working for, Thomas Alva Edison.

Edison had short-haul DC current on his mind, while Tesla had long-haul AC current as his mantra. Edison had been fairly successful with lighting up Lower Manhattan along with one of his primary benefactors, JP Morgan's office.

But because of Edison and Tesla's irreconcilable differences... the two of them butted heads until one day Edison fired Tesla.

Shortly after his dismissal, a man that had made his name in railroads, George Westinghouse, was introduced to Nikola. Westinghouse understood the benefits AC had over DC, chief among them, lower transmission costs. The pair went on to defeat Edison at his own game and power New York City with the energy it derived from the first major AC generating station at Niagara Falls. The rest, as they say, is his story!
